Can’t Buy Me Love


Old pal and producer Andrew Weiner, the man who greenlit our R&H Educational Films for Hypnotic before landing a deal with Lion’s Gate for his own Ithaka Entertainment shingle, has a new mock-doc out titled “Mail Order Wife.” Directed by Weiner’s chums Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland, the film garnered praise in today’s San Francisco Chronicle

Loaded with comic reveals and reversals, the film is as much a condemnation of exploitation as it is about the illusory nature of objectivity in documentary filmmaking. Mail Order Wife opens in the Bay Area tonight at the Lumiere in San Francisco and at the Shattuck Cinemas in Berkeley. Star Eugenia Yuan will be in person at the San Francisco screenings.
