Because I’m a vain and paranoid author, I use Google Alerts to track online mentions of me, my books and my nemesis (who shall go nameless but you know who you are and I know you’re reading this). Most days the Google bot just regurgitates my own blogs and columns or the occasional news item for which I’ve been anticipating with baited breath. Sometimes, however, Google smiles upon me and alerts me to a message like the one below, posted by “TomHill” on a forum dubbed “Wine Berserkers.” As you can see below, the poster is adept at the slowburn, what starts as my usual “dark night of the soul” gradually turns into a sunshine and rainbows, or at least what passes as such to a “wine-fueled graduate of… Gonzo journalism.” Thanks Tom Hill, wherever you are – you made my day, sir.
